Corporate Social Responsibility programmes are predominantly implemented in developed economies - seldom in post-conflict environments like Afghanistan. Roshan, however, is committed to much more than commercial initiatives. Since the company launched in July 2003, giving back to the community has been a high priority, along with providing access to mobile telephony. In the short span of 18 months, this committment to social responsibility, has translated into several initiatives, including the sponsorship of cultural, humanitarian, and sports projects.

Rabita

Rabita products are one way to demonstrate our social responsibility efforts. Together with Rabita, Roshan have established over 300 Public Call Offices (PCOs) in the rural areas of the country. Rabita PCOs are extremely cost-effective and convenient, and enable individuals who cannot afford their own phone, to get in touch with family and friends.

We continue to evaluate and support various programmes in the areas of Arts and Culture, Health Services, and Education. Roshan is also actively involved in the development of small business enterprises as well as some environmental initiatives.

In no way does Roshan aim to duplicate the work of NGOs and non-profit organizations. The company has a strong social conscience and believes that it must, in addition to providing mobile communication services, do its bit to help rebuild Afghanistan and enable a brighter future for the Afghan people.
