August 26th 2015 - The Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF), Roshan, Afghanistan’s leading total communications provider, and MOBY GROUP, Afghanistan’s largest media conglomerate are proud to announce the commencement of the fourth annual Roshan Afghan Premier League Main Event. The opening ceremony will take place on Thursday August 27, 2015. Shortly following the festivities and announcements, the games will kick off with last year's champions Shaheen Asmayee facing off against the champions of the 2015 Nawroz Tournament, Simorgh Alborz.
We are looking forward to improving upon last year's jubilation for the league, which was tangibly felt throughout the country. The 2014 RAPL season saw millions of Afghans cheer on young footballers from across the country as they competed for pride, love of football, and the prestigious RAPL trophy. At least 52.6% (13.5 million viewers) of the population watched Shaheen Asmayee win their second straight title (AMMC – 2014 survey).
“Roshan is proud to once again be the title sponsor of the Roshan Afghan Premier League, as the start of another exciting season is upon us. As the tournament enters its fourth year, the RAPL has made real progress in bringing together communities across Afghanistan and showcasing the skill and talent of the country’s young athletes. Roshan’s sponsorship of the RAPL fits perfectly with our philosophy of providing opportunities for young Afghans of all backgrounds to achieve their dreams, and nurturing their talent as they go on to become the country’s next generation of leaders,” said Karim Khoja, CEO of Roshan.
"In the last three years, the Roshan Afghan Premier League showed that it is the favorite league of Afghans as it has introduced football to Afghan society and is the symbol of national unity between the various tribes in Afghanistan. The Afghanistan football federation has worked hard to introduce the 2015 RAPL Main Event champion to represent Afghanistan in the upcoming South Asian Football Championship matches.
AFF officials, in close cooperation with their RAPL colleagues will do their best to make the fourth season of RAPL the most exciting and memorable one ever," said Keramuddin Karim, President of AFF.
"The RAPL has become a symbol of hope for Afghanistan as it is the largest professional sporting event in the country every year. The young men and women of the RAPL inspire optimism in the current generation in Afghanistan,” said Shafic Gawhari, CEO of MOBY GROUP Afghanistan and RAPL Commissioner.
